New Delhi: July 7 marks the 134th birth anniversary of Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman, the great Indian scientist. Raman was born on July 7, 1888 in Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930 for his discoveries in the field of light scattering.

Raman was born into a poor family, but he developed a keen interest in science from an early age. He studied at Cambridge University in England and the University of Berlin in Germany, and founded the first institute of optics in India.
